Signal for mobile
Begin private communication on Android, iPhone, or iPad. Confirm the operating system, publisher, and download source before installation, and plan backups or transfer before reinstalling or changing devices.
Signal for desktop
Continue conversations on Windows, macOS, or 64-bit Linux. Desktop cannot register independently; first use requires a working Android or iPhone primary device for linking.
Five checks before installation
- Confirm the address belongs to a distribution channel you trust and uses HTTPS.
- Verify the application name, publisher, release, digital signature, and system warning.
- Avoid “internal” or “enhanced” editions shared through groups, file drives, short links, or unknown QR codes.
- Never give anyone an SMS verification code, PIN, or backup recovery key during setup.
- Plan backup or transfer before reinstalling, then enable timely updates after installation.
Mobile requirements
Current installation guidance lists Android 6.0 or later and iOS or iPadOS 15 or later. Requirements can change between releases and should be rechecked before installation.
Desktop requirements
